“Hidayat al-Muta`allemin” One of the first medical books in Persian
His only remained book is entitled “Hidayat al-Muta`allemin Fi al-Tibb” (A Guide to Medical Students) and is the first medical treatise written in “Farsi Dari” (New Persian) language. Joveini wrote his book with the aim of teaching medical sciences to his son; therefore, “Hidayat” (Guide) has an easy to understand and simplified text. The book of Hidayat is composed of three major parts and two hundred chapters.
Kitab-e-al-Tashrih
Anatomy of the human body is one of the main issues discussed in the first major part of this book. Because of his precise descriptions, it is assumed that Joveini dissected the human body himself. In addition, although Hidayat is the only extant book of this physician, when Joveini illustrates the anatomical structure of various parts of the body in the book Hidayat, he refers the readers to one of his other books written specifically on anatomy entitled “Kitab-e-al-Tashrih” (Book of Anatomy) for further details.
